Minissha Lamba, who was stopped by the customs at Mumbai airport for evasion of duty on her return from Cannes on May 18 this year, will now have to pay a penalty of Rs. 4 lakhs to them.
In spite of to Minisha's claim that the jewelry she wore at the film festival did not belong to her and was an advertisement for Anmol Jewellers, Minisha could not produce a letter that contained the list of ornaments and now the customs have fined her for evasion of duty on the jewelry and dutiable goods she carried on her return from Cannes.
They have asked Minissha to pay Rs. 3 lakhs as fine and Rs. 95000 as penalty to claim the jewellery worth around Rs. 31.32 lakhs. She has also been asked to pay an additional penalty of Rs 10,000 on other goods like branded bags and shoes.
However, sources say Minissha's lawyer is going to appeal before the customs commissioner.
